THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Big Egg Restaurant Review:
Dont let the neighborhood around this 45-year-old Westside eatery put you off. On the outside it looks scruffy, but inside its a clean oasis of cheap eats patronized by neighborhood locals, off-duty patrolmen, Westside pols, and families in from the burbs to do their shopping at the nearby West Side Market. Breakfasts here are hearty caffeine-, carbohydrate-, and cholesterol-dense affairs that will leave you stuffed for the rest of the day. Best bets? The corn beef and Swiss cheese omelet, the vegetarian omelet, and eggs Benedict drenched in bright yellow cheese sauce. All come with heaping sides of crispy home fries (with onions if you want) and butter-drenched toast. The lunch-dinner menu features a good selection of sandwiches, Black Angus burgers and steaks, dinner salads, spaghetti platters (try the Italian sausage!), and down-home dinners that are palate and pocketbook pleasers.
