![]() : For a short road trip adventure in fine barbecue, head about 30 miles south of Austin to Lockhart, officially proclaimed the "Barbecue Capital of Texas." When you go, don’t miss this friendly, family-owned restaurant serving traditionally smoked barbecue. Not only is Black’s Texas’ oldest barbecue joint continuously run by the same family, but it's also rumored to be the first to use the brisket cut of beef exclusively. Today, you can enjoy homemade sausage, chicken, turkey, pork ribs and loin, along with peppery beef that's smoked over wood in brick pits. Ladle on the thick, sweet homemade sauce, and give the side dishes like coleslaw, corn on the cob or black-eyed peas a try. Peach cobbler is the iconic Texas dessert. Don’t forget to BYOB, if you care to imbibe. |
