Bontá Restaurant & Bar Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Cathedral City, by most accounts, isn't as sexy as Palm Springs or as moneyed as La Quinta. But dig a bit, and there are some culinary gems. Bontá is a good example.

Likes: The creative and savory fusion menu.
Dislikes: The location.

Food & Drinks: Owner Hector Salvatierra, an Argentine native, and his Austrian-born wife, Petra, have created a lovely menu that showcases both of their cultures. The Euro-Latin American offerings include savory empanadas and a salumi platter brimming with prosciutto, cured meats, marinated artichoke hearts, soft cheeses and a chunk of artisan bread. There are also pasta dishes, leafy salads and tapas. We like the flaky-crusted Austrian apple strudel, filled with walnuts, apples, cinnamon and raisins and topped with whipped cream. For drinks, expect an array of vintage and contemporary cocktails as well as wine, beer and sangría. Since Bontá neighbors a theater, dining here presents the perfect opportunity for a dinner-and-a-movie date. When short on time, check out the bar menu, which features a variety of small plates.
