THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cafe Allegro Restaurant Review:
Steve Cole, a former Marine, opened Café Allegro fifteen years ago and set the towns dining scene afire. He was the first to work with local organic farmers, one of the first to open a restaurant on the 39th Street food corridor and the first restaurateur to collaborate with Harvesters, the local food bank network. Café Allegro is elegant and sophisticated from beginning to end: subdued lighting and burnished wood; crisp white linens; polished, attentive staff; fresh, innovative cuisine. Youll enjoy the Asian-spiced tuna tartare with sesame cracker spears and the fresh Maryland crab cakes with Cajun rémoulade and pungent mustard sauces, appetizers typical of Chef Ted Habigers eclectic style. That style is apparent too in his entrées, like the pecan-roasted filet with goat stuffed portobello mushrooms and pan-seared Chilean sea bass with Thai green curry with cooling vegetables. The warm and gooey chocolate soufflé is rightly a signature dessert item. For lighter appetites, they always have seasonal house-made sorbets and ice creams . Café Allegro also maintains an extensive pantry and cellar both for take-out and for special requests from customers and fellow chefs. Whether seeking truffle oil or fine wine, Colorado lamb or Alaskan halibut, theyve got it on the menu or in the pantry.
