THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cafe Continental & Zinc Bar Restaurant Review:
Housed in a circa-1858 building that once held a tack shop and a bookstore, Café Continental is far more than its name implies. To start, it’s hard to pass up the fried oysters served on a bed of broccoli slaw. Or opt for the Athenos muffuletta pizza with fresh spinach, feta, Roma tomatoes, black olives, onions and roasted garlic. Move on to sirloin spiedini, stuffed with a moist Italian dressing of breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, Romano cheese and herbs alongside fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil. Pappardelle with lobster and snow crab tossed in vodka cream sauce with Pecorino cheese and light red pepper purée is a fine choice, too. Save room for the pineapple Continental, grilled, caramelized pineapple rings with toasted coconut, vanilla ice cream (made on the UW-Madison campus) and raspberry sauce. The wine list features 50 selections by the glass.
