The mammoth, elegant restaurant of this husband-and-wife team features white tablecloth service, an ample menu of unpretentious Mediterranean fare, and beautifully-crafted house-made desserts from the talented hand of pastry chef and restaurant namesake Esin deCarion. Pass on the appetizers, such as the meze platter---a meal unto itself---loaded with ladles of roasted eggplant, too much hummus, dolmas and the like. Instead, move forward to the seasonal meat, poultry, fish and vegetarian dishes that showcase quality products (think Niman Ranch and Hoffman Farms) with creativity, such as Muscatel-braised cabbage, caramelized fennel, and butternut squash polenta cake. Dessert is an absolute must and worthy of a drive from anywhere, including a jaw-dropping black bottom, white chocolate-and-banana-cream tart and a chocolate-swirl mascarpone cheesecake with berry coulis. Pair your choice with a port from Portugal, rare sherry from Spain or a local framboise.
