Chef Carmen Gonzalez adds a dash of Puerto Rican charm to refined native New England fare.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Carmen at the Danforth Restaurant Review:
Located within The Danforth, an elegant boutique inn, Carmen's showcases chef Carmen Gonzalez' Puerto Rican background in vibrant dishes rooted in New England ingredients and tradition. Start in the salon with drinks and snacks like Berkshire pork bites served with a chunky relish. Then head into the 34-seat dining room to order small plates to share, such as lobster fritters with Key lime mayo or empanadas de pescado. A sprightly mix of textures is offered in dishes like the black sea bass ceviche and crispy fried oysters, and the monkfish croquettes with a creamy Romesco sauce. Among main courses is the Rohan duck breast with a braised duck leg roulade, corn flan, warm baby spinach and port sauce. The duck is lean but full flavored. A pork tenderloin offers another nod to Latin cuisine with sweet plantain mash. For dessert, try Gonzalez' flan with caramel sauce or the more traditional cinnamon sugar churros with spiked chocolate dipping sauce. The eclectic 50-bottle wine list offers many old-world selections, all housed in a safe.
