This bright and relaxed bistro offers reasonably priced country-style French food in the midst of Portland’s trendiest neighborhood. This refreshing breeze of affordability is welcome in a town where French food usually makes a sizable dent in one’s wallet. The food is hearty here, and the portions are large. The appetizers and salads are impressive, nicely prepared with fresh ingredients. A recent salad of sliced duck breast arranged with mixed greens, nuts, mushrooms and potato salad was superb. Vegetarians will swoon over the mushroom ragoût served with spinach and puff pastry. Entrées---still hit or miss in this eatery’s infancy---range from saumon aux écrevisses (salmon with crayfish sauce) to steak à la Diane. The wine list provides some solid choices, but is still being assembled. The attentive service at this charming café completes a comfortable dining experience.
