THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chinon Restaurant Review:

Chinon, located in a residential backwater, continues to quietly delight, enjoyed by locals and those in the know. The chef/owner and his manager wife are French-trained and clearly dedicated. Let’s start with a typical three-course £16 set menu where price doesn’t ever seem to cheat on quality or quantity. Superb homemade breads and then rillettes of goose with capers and walnuts, followed by tangy fried squid with pesto and mash, and lastly a toothsome vanilla bavarois. Presentation is well thought-out and each flavour impacts. Cooking also nods to modish tastes: rack of lamb with couscous, harissa and black olives; sea bass with sweet soy, bok choy and lemon chutney. Wines---half French, half New World---are thoughtfully selected and presented. Service can be a tad opinionated, but it’s well-meaning. The décor has a pleasantly French provincial feel. Take a table upstairs by the large window overlooking a leafy courtyard or sit out there in summer. Here is a restaurant de quartier that’s worth seeking out.
