THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Club Isabella Restaurant Review:
At Club Isabella, good food and good jazz (groups get going around 9 p.m. nightly) fuse to feed the soul. The tables are a bit crowded in the two candle-lit, brick-walled rooms of this converted carriage house, but that doesnt bother the locals---docs, post-docs, culture vultures, and jazz buffs (acoustics are excellent)---who fill the place nightly. Chef Paul Byrds menu runs mostly to pizzas and pasta dishes, but includes a couple of red meat, veal, chicken and fish entrées, too. Appetizers are big, so we share an antipasto platter heaped with roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, salami, and mozzarella cheese balls on a bed of grilled eggplant, along with the warm and crusty Italian bread. A nice pasta is the spaghetti tossed in a basil-flavored marinara sauce that is just garlicky enough.
