THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Deux Cheminees Restaurant Review:
In adjoining townhouses designed by the great 19th century architect Frank Furness, chef-owner Fritz Blank runs his own house party. The oriental rugs, crystal chandeliers, antique furnishings, and solicitous service, make one feel that they are in a private mansion, having dinner with friends. Especially in the colder months, when all the fireplaces are lit in the various rooms, there is no pleasanter place. Blank does, however, cook what the French call la cuisine de musée---poached oysters Récamier, his signature creamy crab soup with Scotch---dishes that some people gave up years ago. It's not without merit, but it's not of today. For many, the beauty of the surroundings, and the attentive staff, outweigh any culinary shortcomings.
