: Dorado sets itself apart with its authenticity: you won't find overstuffed bomb-size burritos here. You also won't be tempted by heaping platters of flavorless rice and refried beans. This is a taco shack in the Baja California tradition --- close your eyes and you can almost picture bronzed surfers ambling up to the counter after a day riding the waves. Whitefish tacos get three different treatments: the Dorado is beer-battered with a spunky chipotle crema; the Ensenada boasts pickled onions and Baha crema; and simply grilled features tomatillo and avocado salsa. Grilled chipotle marinated shrimp tacos come with jícama and pineapple salsa. Dorado's other specialty are "cemitas," a Mexican street-food sandwich. Nestled between a sesame seed egg roll, you'll find fresh black beans, chipotles en adobo, avocado, cilantro and Oaxaca cheese. A respectable smattering of salads and Mexican sweet corn round out the menu. A limited selection of beer and wine is also available. The stools and chairs are somewhat uncomfortable and the small room can get noisy, so we recommend taking your tacos to go. |
