THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS El Norteno Restaurant Review:
When it opened, El Norteño offered completely new flavors for New Mexicans---the flavors of Old Mexico. The menu was rich with foreign dishes like mole and citrus-spiked pork steamed in banana leaves. But time and familiarity have robbed El Norteño of some of its previous luster. The original owner, Leo Nuñez, has retired and his daughter now runs the restaurant. (His son owns another popular Mexican-flavored hang-out near the University of New Mexico called Bandido Hideaway.) The distinctive salsas still tingle and the carne adobada, a variation on a traditional New Mexican dish, still brings oohs and aahs of delight.
