: This stylish little bistro, as slender as a panino, demonstrates that the childhood favorite, grilled cheese sandwiches, are too beloved to confine to just lunch. Have one at midday, sure, but also for dinner, brunch or as a pre- or post-show snack. But this is not the humble, processed-cheese product of your youth. These half dozen or so offerings are mature versions like the Hang-Over (black truffle mac-and-cheese with cheddar, Parmesan and Gouda). The menu is fluid with creative concoctions rotating on and off of the line-up: the Don Quixote comprises Gouda, caramelized onions, mushrooms, roasted red pepper and olive tapenade. And speaking of fluid, there are adult beverages for pairing, too, such as local craft beers and sangrĂa from a small but titillating list. There are vegan cheese-and-butter options, gluten-free bread, and a couple of soups, sides, salads and, for dessert, a caramel sea salt rice crispy. But the big news here is that grilled cheese has grown up. |
