THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Herbivore Restaurant Review:

Relegated to the obligatory roasted-vegetable sandwich at most restaurants, vegan cuisine is remarkably unsung and somewhat scarce. At Herbivore's three locations --- two in San Francisco, one in Berkeley --- it is the only thing going, and it's going full speed ahead with generous servings of elegantly conceived, nicely prepared, globe-spanning fare. Faux-flesh fans will like rich "beef" stroganoff, juicy "meatball" and chewy "cheese" "steak" sandwiches, spunky fajitas and complex "chicken" mole. Equally succulent are the pad thai, phyllo tofu pie and original entrées such as a crispy-topped quinoa cake bathed in mushroom gravy (with mashed potatoes and sautéed greens cozying up to it on one massive plate). Save room for desserts such as raw cheesecake, and a German chocolate cake so indulgent you won't believe it's egg and butter free. Herbivore also offers respectable wine and beer lists.
