: Virtually launching the genre in artisan ice cream in Atlanta, chef Keith Schroeder's High Road continues to blaze trails in the field. Inventive flavors include slightly quirky spicy Aztec Chocolate. No argument, though, about the signature flavor Caffeine and Cacao. Belgian chocolate ganache swirls toasted cacao nibs into a Jittery Joe coffee mix, so the texture is at once smooth and crunchy. Then there’s bourbon burnt sugar, and fig and balsamic, to name a couple. Among the classics are vanilla fleur de sel and toffee toasted almond. Bitter orange stracciatella with "torn" chocolate pieces is among gelati. Organic ingredients are used whenever possible, and chef Schroeder even makes his own limoncello for one of his sorbets. Relocated to a spot just inside the door at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, this unit operates between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drop by the plant in Chamblee (2241 Perimeter Park Dr., Ste. 7, 678-701-7623) on Saturdays for tastes and retail sales from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; tours are Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. |
