THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Izakaya Nin Restaurant Review:
The city’s first authentic robata bar both excites and disappoints: we like the tiny, smoky items such as enoki mushrooms wrapped in bacon, and chicken with green onion, but wish for more flavor in both as well as in the foil packet of shiitake mushrooms in broth. Special rolls can be dazzling visually, and the best also satisfy on taste grounds---the Tiger Eye roll with scored squid wrapped around salmon and avocado being among the best. Odd-sounding rolls such as the Tokyo Rose, wrapping thin soy paper around fried bananas and avocado, are worth one try, but we actually preferred the riceless Sakura Roll with cucumber cloaking salmon, crab, masago and more. But in the long run, the simple Umejiso Maki with seaweed wrapper, rice, puréed salty plum and shiso leaf was the taste sensation. Pair any and all with a saké flight from the pleasant restaurant’s notable selection; the helpful staff will be glad to make suggestions.
