The Gjerde brothers’ sweet little Bolton Hill café is an engaging neighborhood coffee house-restaurant. Large windows let in plenty of sunlight in the daytime; soft lighting soothes in the evening. A spunky menu flips gaily from comfort food to hip fare, all at decent, everyday prices. An herby chicken pot pie and a grilled cheese sandwich made with Vermont Cheddar offer good cheer when needed, while dishes like the corn-crusted salmon cake with wasabi aïoli and beet salad and the spice-crusted tuna with black-olive mashed potatoes perk more sophisticated appetites. The Gjerde’s own Hudson Street Baking Company provides all the pastries, breads and desserts.
