La Gueule de Bois Restaurant Review:
The intimate dining room at La Gueule de Bois is all dark wood and brick walls. Bare light bulbs and a dramatic chandelier hang from the ceiling, and a DJ on display spins relaxed beats as the night picks up. But it’s the seasonal French bistro menu that attracts food-lovers of all ages to the romantic spot. The menu changes weekly, but usually includes locally grown steaks that range from elk to deer and handmade charcuterie. The fish of the day is always creative and well-executed, such as skate wing with sun-dried tomatoes, capers, black garlic, yuzu and crispy polenta. Vegetarians can enjoy the risotto and house-made gnocchi. Leave room for textbook molten chocolate cake. The wine list is surprisingly affordable and includes a carefully curated selection by the glass, half-litre and bottle.
