Kauai has quite a few more Mexican restaurants than it used to, but this tiny eatery remains at the top with authentic, creative food. It prepares all its own sauces and slow-cooks its tender, flavorful meats. The chicken mole enchilada has a rich and complex sauce, and the shrimp in a smoky chipotle sauce is outstanding. There are also vegetarian choices and lots of good seafood items. The local haunt is sometimes overwhelmed by its popularity, so you may not find a seat in the small dining room. The few tables outside face onto the shopping center's parking lot. For a better locale, order take-out.
