: Benjy Levit (benjy’s) and chef Dylan Murray launched their second outpost of Local Foods in the former home of Taco Milagro, and it's even more popular than the first location in Rice Village. The space has been completely revamped as a casual-chic lunch and dinner spot with a substantial takeout business. Inside, it’s bright and airy with booths, tables and antiques, like the farm trough filled with ice where you grab a beer or a soda on your way to the counter. There’s also a full bar, along with a nice little wine and beer selection. But the food is the highlight, all created with ingredients procured from local sources and artisans. Lunch yields salads and soups, but the best meals are the sandwiches, which come with two sides. Try the crunchy chicken with a nut crumble, or the truffle egg salad, both on pretzel buns; the sweet potato salad makes a good sidekick. Dinner features family-style choices of free-range roasted chicken or Gulf Coast shrimp, each of which also comes with two sides. For dessert, get one of the homemade brownies or cookies. |
