Lotus of Siam Restaurant Review:
EDITOR'S NOTE: THIS LOCATION IS UNDER RENOVATIONS. LOTUS OF SIAM ALSO HAS A RESTAURANT AT 620 E. FLAMINGO. Owners Bill and Saipin Chutima feature classic Issan-style cuisine at their Lotus of Siam. Among appealing appetizers on the extensive menu is the mee krob---crispy noodles mixed with sweet-and-sour sauce, chicken and shrimp. An extensive array of soups, salads, fried rice and noodles satisfies every taste. Among main course specialties is the nua yum katiem---sliced charbroiled beef on a bed of sliced cabbage topped with fresh garlic and spicy sauce. We like the salmon panang---charbroiled salmon filet with Thai-style creamy curry sauce and Cognac. Those in-the-know order from the special northern Thai menu that features generally milder dishes than those of central and northeastern Thailand. Among highly regarded choices are khao soi---Burmese-influenced egg noodles in curry sauce and coconut cream garnished with sliced red onion and lime. Lotus of Siam also serves memorable pad thai, a favorite on the weekday lunch buffet, as well as for dinner. Saké, beer and the extensive wine list nicely complement the fare. Thai iced tea or coffee laced with cream served in a Mason jar is a refreshing choice, as is coconut ice cream.
