This classic Victorian house has been transformed into a fine-dining restaurant, bringing fine fare to this far suburban town. High ceilings, burnished hardwood floors, period light fixtures and antique glass in the windows create a romantic atmosphere. Dishes range from the regional (fried green tomatoes stuffed with goat cheese) to classic American (crab cakes with chow chow and chipotle-flavored mayonnaise) to French (duck confit). Shrimp and stone-ground grits, grilled salmon with succotash and herbed-cheese stuffed chicken breast are the current favorites. All desserts are made in house, except the sorbet. The deep-dish tiramisù and crème brûlée are the hit desserts. This wine list is positively adventurous, particularly this far from the city. Selections range from American to French to the occasional Italian bottle. Banfi’s Brachetto d’Acqui goes great with chocolate. Alas, no espresso, but the Illy coffee is strong and delicious, a nice end to this satisfying dining experience.
