Edgewood Cafe Restaurant Review:

Located at the end of a small strip of stores on Broad Street, this BYOB restaurant exudes a welcoming feel. Staff is friendly and attentive, the diminutive dining room lively. Skip the standard appetizers and try the mussels zuppa or “John’s Calamari,” chef/owner John Walsh’s unique take on the Rhode Island standard, with fried squid rings tossed with sun-dried and grape tomatoes as well as hot peppers in balsamic vinaigrette. The Edgewood Cafe’s menu gives diners the choice of playing it safe with burgers and gourmet pizzas, or enjoying a twist on convention with a grilled eggplant panino stuffed with mozzarella, garlic, roasted peppers and fresh tomato sauce. Specials are offered daily and are usually the best choices (think grilled pork tenderloin with Dijon maple cream sauce), but regular entrées include Italian favorites, ribs, and the popular flat-iron steak topped with Gorgonzola and caramelized onions. For dessert, try the “Banana Mondale”; the fruit is sautéed with rum and brown sugar and layered in a crispy tortilla basket paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
