Whether you want to get rowdy in the biergarten or chow down on gargantuan homemade bratwurst, Kaiserhof is one of the most authentic German restaurants south of Los Angeles. Vegetarians beware: short of fried potatoes and heavily marinated cabbage, there are few vegetables to be found on the menu. That’s fine as long as you can indulge in the sour cream-laden beef stroganoff, Fred Flintstone-esque schweinshaxe (roasted pork shank) or buttery wiener schnitzel. Potato pancakes with bacon and apple sauce, sauerkraut and spätzle sides are tasty complements to this protein-dominated cuisine, especially when washed down with a stein of one of the many beers on tap, such as Franziskaner Hefeweizen and Kaiserhof Kolsch. We like the European vibe and celebratory feel in the biergarten.
