Pambiche Restaurant Review:

Pambiche is the perfect antidote to gray Portland days with its vibrant colors, even in the outdoor area filled with picnic tables (and heaters). The menu features traditional Cuban Creole fare such as the “Plato Cubano" with pork, beans and rice; a "pepper pot" stew with tropical root vegetables, beef and pork; pork tongue in red sauce; oxtail braised in Creole wine sauce; and red snapper in a coconut-pepper sauce. Flaky empanadas with various fillings are popular at the restaurant and for take-out. Weekend brunch is headlined by an array of “Tortilla Cubana,” huge Cuban omelets that easily feed two persons. While Cuban cuisine is fairly meat-oriented, vegetarians will still find plenty of choices, including a soy hash. Two dozen or so desserts include traditional Cuban flan and rich cakes such as the Island carrot cake spiked with dark rum, tropical fruits and guava cream cheese. Chocolate fans will enjoy chocolate rum truffle cake rolled in the shape of a cigar. Consider the fruit-inspired Caribbean cocktails, too. Both early and late happy hours offer prime food deals.
