Ping Pong Dim Sum Restaurant Review:
Hyped as the ultimate dim sum destination, Ping Pong misses the mark: no clattering carts, no abundant choices of steaming goodies, no ripple of conversations, no feeling of the real China in this austerely decorated, very Westernized rendition of a Chinese tea house. Even the food, much costlier than the real deal, is overly fussy and primped. For diners looking for an upscale Chinese meal, however, this Penn Quarter/Chinatown restaurant may solve the problem. It’s slightly exotic without being too unfamiliar. Baked chicken puffs or prawn-and-spinach wraps have a recognizable ring, and steamed buns or braised honey-glazed ribs might please anyone’s palate. Desserts include a chocolate bun, ice cream, and crispy banana rolls.
