Santarpio's Pizza Restaurant Review:

No frills, no nonsense, no credit cards. It doesn't get much simpler than Santarpio's Pizza, located in a neighborhood section of East Boston. For more than 100 years, members of the Santarpio family have been firing up thin, garlicky pies that generations of slice-centric Bostonians have kept on their radar. Fancy gourmands should stay home; there are no stemmed wine glasses. But do come for the extra-crackly crust dripping with basic toppings like olives, broccoli and homemade sausage sprinkled with Italian cheese, perhaps paired with inexpensive beer or a bottle of red wine for less than $20. Pies include a white shrimp scampi number and one with Italian cheese, pepperoni, garlic and hot peppers. The place serves barbecue to boot but not the kind with ribs and pulled pork slathered in barbecue sauce --- think grilled Italian sausage with hot cherry peppers, tender steak tips and lamb skewers that are best as whopping appetizers.
