Shaw's Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Shaw's is only 45 minutes southeast of Columbus, in General Sherman's picturesque hometown where the scenic Hocking Hills (foothills of the Appalachians) begin. The restaurant is situated on the ground floor of a 1950s vintage hotel that's been made more inn-like by the current owners, who have combined adjoining rooms into getaway suites. The wood-paneled dining rooms have tall ceilings and a stately air. The menu's two personalities reflect the diversity of the restaurant's patronage. The left side is all-American and never changes: hand-cut steaks and chops done over a high-temperature char-grill (the applewood-smoked pork chops are particularly compelling if you can handle a one-pounder) and seafood, either broiled or deep-fried. The right side of the menu is a daily-changing affair that explores different American and foreign regions week by week, rotating in old favorites a few at a time. Thus, you might be offered a very fine cassoulet in the style of Toulouse one week and a Moroccan tagine the next. The wine list has great depth of California Cabs, Chardonnays and Merlots---the co-owner's passion, for Shaw's is one of the very few area restaurants that will lay down wines to age.
