Southbound Restaurant Review:

Southbound’s contemporary rustic décor relies on old brick walls and weathered wood on floors, tables and tongue-and-groove ceilings to craft a comfortable yet lively space. Snacks for openers or to accompany drinks at the bar include Cajun boiled peanuts and deviled eggs, classic Southern tastes. For a light first course, try the peanuts (which we think could use a little more spice) with the Loxarel cava from the very intelligently composed wine list. Wild Georgia shrimp comes head-on, making this a topnotch first course. The wood-grilled salmon presents a sweet, pure flavor, nicely enhanced by its method of preparation and arriving medium rare as ordered. Among the details we endorse, short rib is smoked on the bone, and the generous two-bone portion is he-man sized. For dessert, banana pudding and Bourbon pecan pie roll the menu Southbound again, although the flourless chocolate cake goes beautifully with the dessert Tannat from Uruguay. Lunch offers a raft of sandwiches. A real plus: wines are served at correct temperatures, so reds come just a little cool to showcase their fruit. Weekends tend to be crowded, making it quite noisy, so consider a weekday reservation for more tranquility.
