Sylvain Restaurant Review:

Sylvain takes its name from a 1796 comic opera that premiered in New Orleans, and the former carriage house in which it resides was built that same year. It is the brainchild of Manhattan transplant Sean McCusker, who used as many antiques and as much recycled wood as possible from the old La Marquise bakery that once occupied this structure. This wine list is ever-evolving and constructed on the safe side, but patrons may bring in their own wines for a moderate corkage fee. A cocktail enjoyed in the lush, secluded courtyard also is an option. Though the focus is on spirits, the food is tasty, too. Try the pork Milanese, or the pan-fried pork shoulder, or go for the Sylvain burger. Prices are on the high side for this type of menu, but the French Quarter location has much to do with that. Be good to yourself at the end of the meal with a chocolate pot de crème or an Abita root beer float. Or finish your wine with an artisan cheese plate.
