Masala Restaurant Review

: Masala’s extensive menu features northern Indian cooking and accommodates vegetarian and non-vegetarian patrons. Respectfully, the restaurant says it prepares vegetarian dishes separately from meat dishes. Heat levels on all items may be adjusted to individual tastes. On a budget? Hit the buffet (lunch $9.95 Mon.-Fri., $10.95 Sat.-Sun.; dinner $11.95 Mon.-Fri., $12.95 Sat.-Sun.). Its offerings vary daily, but we enjoy the chicken korma when it's available, as well as dal (lentils). At dinnertime try the shrimp selections and the bhuna gosht, lamb or goat cooked with tomatoes and spices; served over rice, it pairs well with a side of cooling raita. A Farsi classic, aromatic chicken dansak is cooked with lentils and spices. Traditional Indian desserts may include a deep-fried pastry soaked in sugar syrup (gulab jamun), saffron ice cream and rice pudding. There’s not much in the way of wine, as beer is more popular with the cuisine, but there is a full bar.
