Wicker Park's Wow quotient shot way up when MOD. opened. Creative contemporary American cuisine in a setting that is, to say the least, colorful and fun. If ever a restaurant added a new color to the box of culinary crayons, it has to be MOD., which, of course, stands for modern. The colors are flamboyant, the lighting is lavish and the materials of every type are used with abandon. This has to be the first restaurant where animal, vegetable and mineral take on new meaning. Chef Andrew Zimmerman continues to offer some of MOD.'s signature dishes while incorporating his seasonal selections. We love the plump and pristine iron skillet-roasted mussels and the crispy fried Blue Lake green beans for starters. Desserts are lavish and luscious, with a knockout chocolate cake leading the sweets parade.
