THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Nichi Bei Kai Restaurant Review:
Yes, this old Japan-hand has added a sushi bar in keeping with the fashions of our day. But it has not forsaken the hibachi'd-before-your-eyes dining style, complete with fancy knife-work executed by white-toqued chefs, that initially introduced so many Americans to Japanese dining, steakhouse style. Your choice of shrimp, chicken or beef still comes with miso soup, grilled vegetables, and a big bowl of white rice. And you still sit around a huge tabletop griddle to watch the chef strut his stuff. The food is no different than it ever was, although perhaps our tastes have grown more sophisticated. A good show still draws a crowd.
