THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Nicole's Bistro at Quackenbush House Restaurant Review:
People who claim to not like French food ought to try the fare at Nicole’s Bistro, where contemporary cuisine is given a French twist. While it’s easy on the cream sauce and butter, the menu does offer some more traditional French dishes, such as the coq au vin made with organic chicken and served over fresh fettuccine. Pasta options include the whole-wheat penne with broccoli rabe, sun-dried tomato and feta. Entrée standouts include the braised short ribs of beef bouchon with red wine, garlic and roasted root vegetables. The lengthy wine list, naturally, has an abundance of French wines. Housed in one of downtown Albany’s historic Quackenbush Square buildings (said to be among the oldest urban Dutch structures in the country), the bistro is one of the city’s most attractive and romantic dining spots as well. When the weather’s agreeable, grab a table in the courtyard, which features a reproduction of a colonial herb garden. Look for a nightly prix-fixe menu, in addition to the occasional wine events.
