THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Old Original Bookbinder's Restaurant Review:
This location has been at its Society Hill spot for decades, and is owned by the Taxins, Philadelphias first family of fish. Not to be confused with the other Bookbinders, it has been a major tourist attraction for that long as well, and the walls are covered with celebrity photos. The nautical atmosphere and the beleaguered waiters are the same, but the food has lost its original cachet. Of course, you can still get gigantic lobsters and meaty crabcakes, and uncomplicated preparations of fish are fine, but the bloom is off the rose. If you can wangle a seat in the front bar, you can perhaps recapture the old magic with a bowl of their famed snapper soup, or the first Jersey tomatoes that the family always brought in from their farm.
