Pasha Mezze Restaurant Review

: In the Ottoman Empire, a "pasha" was a top-ranking official and "mezzo" meant a variety of small dishes. Put them together here and you’ve got contemporary Turkish tapas of the highest order. But that’s just the start at this attractive restaurant, at once exotic and cozy with pottery in high, lit alcoves; Anatolian music swirling from the sound system; curtains pulled back revealing a lounge beyond the main dining area and exposed brick bar; and seating that ranges from farmhouse-looking communal tables to pillow-strewn banquettes. Spicy walnut dip, hummus and zucchini puffs are great to share and kick off a meal, but entrées encompass salmon skewers with garden greens and jasmine rice, slow-cooked lamb with eggplant steak (some choices come as mezzes or mains), and sandwiches like a beef kebab wrap. Much is organic and vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free choices abound. We like to start the morning with the vegan Maiden Tower, grilled tomato with a poached egg, homemade bread and choice of grilled lentil cake or quinoa cake. Take time to side a demitasse of thick Turkish coffee with a coconut-covered chocolate bon bon, but if you’re in a hurry, there is a counter for take-away.
