The menu at Peking Eastern House includes Japanese, Taiwanese and Chinese-American dishes along with sturdy, no-nonsense Northern-style (read hearty) Chinese fare. It's the last, however, that has made its reputation and earned it a special place in the hearts of anyone who appreciates hand-formed wheat noodles. With a decidedly superior texture and flavor, these thick noodles form the basis for some of the best dishes the kitchen assembles: noodle soup with lamb stew, noodles with Peking sauce, and special combination noodle soups are among those dishes guaranteed to banish the chills. Also tops: the kitchen's wheat-based dishes such as the green onion pancakes, the puffy sesame pancake, and the Chinese doughnut. You can order up the more typical General Tso's chicken or moo goo gai pan, but why bother?
