THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Perlino's Italian Bistro Restaurant Review:
Dave Brubeck's classic Take Five on the sound system is the kind of music that warms up the atmosphere of this well-appointed neighborhood bistro. Lighting is warm and low but one can still read a menu. Tables are well spaced. Although it would be nice if more tables were two-tops, the place still sports a romantic panache. Altogether, the ambience is a fine introduction to the crisp, but gossamer-breaded, and perfectly fried calamari with a caper-studded garlicky cream sauce and a tomato sauce. An order of lasagna will fetch up a large plate of the traditionally styled American version of this classic Italian dish---piled fairly high and covered in a thick and zesty tomato sauce. Sausage and peppers is another of those classic American-style favorites. Little touches are unique: the gnocchi are fried giving them a crisp edge, rather like the Italian version of the Tater Tot---but so much better! Tiramisu is the must-have dessert. Not a glorious wine list by any stretch, this selection still has some nice, well-priced offerings for all-purpose enjoyment, such as the Zenato Valpolicella which goes with a lot of these dishes.
