There are few places in the area that serve a heartier breakfast at an earlier hour. Plaza Restaurant has been open since 1970, and it's all about coffee and eggs in the morning starting at 6 a.m. weekdays and 4 a.m. on weekends. Three-egg omelets are prepared pretty much any way you like, from Florentine-style with spinach and feta to ham, and accompanied by hash browns and toast. Breakfast specialties include Benedicts topped with lox or corned beef hash served with hash browns, as well as fluffy pancakes heaped with butter, maple syrup and preserves. While locals think of it as a place to start the day, there's lunch and early dinner fare, too. Sandwiches such as the "My Favorite" with rib-eye slices, sautéed onions and cheddar and a buffalo chicken with spicy chicken, red onions and mozzarella are equally good to eat in or on the go.
