Pondicheri Restaurant Review:
Pondicheri in the multi-use West Ave center is chef/owner Anita Jaisinghani’s more casual concept to her Indika restaurant. This sleek eatery, with its concrete floor and bold fabric touches, offers classic Indian home-style and street food inflected with Texas ingredients. Open from “sun to moon” daily, the restaurant gets a trendy and sometimes loud crowd at dinner. While entrées like the shrimp and asparagus in a southern Indian curry are fine, we suggest ordering multiple appetizers, such as chicken kebabs with green masala, for sharing. Several of the small dishes, some rice and naan, a little wine and the sweet mango ice cream make more than a meal. Counter-service breakfasts bring a fried egg and spicy beef keema, and residents and shoppers cruising in and out for takeout coffees, cookies and frankies --- roti wraps stuffed with chicken, beef and vegetarian masala --- keep this place hopping all day. You can also stop by anytime for something from the juice bar, which features Indian flavors like laal and naka. Don't miss the chef’s upstairs Bake Lab + Shop for on-the-go spices, chutneys and Indian baked goods.
