Racanelli's Restaurant Review:
Pizza crust is a serious subject at Racanelli’s, a family-run chain with locations across the metro area. On the New York-style pies, a thin crust tenderly supports everything from spinach to meatballs. For the double-rise Sicilian pan pizza, it’s a hearty showcase for sauce and cheese. And then there are the buttery garlic knots, a carb-loaded treat for everyone who likes the crust best. Racanelli’s gets street cred from its roots in the Bronx and --- before that --- Bari, Italy. This heritage shows up on the menu via pizzas like the Bronx Bomber, holding 11 toppings at once. Along those same lines, the overstuffed Racanelli’s Special hoagie sandwich has three meats, lettuce, tomato, roasted peppers and more. Simpler but equally tasty is the meatball Parmesan hero, smothered in tomato sauce and baked with mozzarella. Salads, calzones and strombolis round out the menu. Nearby Webster University keeps this outpost busy at all hours, with students and visitors to arts events stopping by for a beer and pizza --- and maybe even an ice cream at the shop a few doors down.
