THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Red Room Restaurant Review:

A serious restaurant in a book shop may sound rather bizarre, but Waterstone’s flagship bookstore on Piccadilly rather warrants it, spread as it is over the whole of what used to be the rather grand clothes shop, Simpson’s. There are various refreshment spots throughout the building where you can feed the stomach as well as the brain cells but arguably the Red Room is the only one worth making an effort to visit. It’s a proper restaurant with white-linen tablecloths and napkins and a predictably red colour scheme, where a civilised bookish clientele congregate to eat hearty, mostly British cooking---smoked salmon with soda bread, pan-fried veal liver with roast root vegetables. Bad accoustics allow you to hear other diner’s conversations, and they to hear yours, so talk about something innocuous or just enjoy reading your recent purchases. Set lunch & dinner 2 courses £15.50, 3 courses £18.50.
