THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Region Restaurant Review:

Chef Michael Stebner continues his love of local produce at Region, his new pared-down eatery in Hillcrest. As the menu proudly proclaims, our goal is to search for quality food that comes from our own backyard. If only all of our backyards were the Chino Ranch! Staying true to the fresh is best mantra, Stebner changes the menu nightly. We started with the beet, apple and goat cheese salad (simple and delicious), the purée of turban squash soup (too heavy on the cream) and homemade mozzarella (served with salami, fennel, garlic and croutons). We liked the skate wing accented with capers and raisins, but not its cauliflower purée side (soupy and flavorless). Better was the roast chicken, which was tender and aptly paired with sweet potato purée and cabbage. Dessert was the highlight---pray the chocolate fondant with raisins, Brazil nuts and caramel ice cream is on the menu for your visit. Our second choice is the warm, homemade doughnuts served with lemon curd semifreddo and candied almonds.
