Republic Restaurant Review

: Situating Republic on a prime spot on the main street of Takoma Park --- Sunday’s market-goers can easily pop in for a beer and a burger --- owner Jeff Black is counting on the city’s diverse citizenry to fill up the place. The lunch and dinner menus star daily-changing fresh oysters, a commodity in a restaurant that looks more like a rugged bar than a seafood eatery. Whichever meal is your choice, you can order the overstuffed Smith Meadows Farm burger with cheese and bacon on a pretzel roll. Seafood, all-vegetable, steak and risotto entrées are offered at night as well, with fewer options during the day. If it’s available, be sure to order the Meyer lemon tart, topped with a strawberry compote. Late-night and brunch items reflect the all-American nature of the establishment. Beverages include specialty cocktails, a selection of white and red wines, and assorted locally made brews.
