THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Restaurant Balzac Restaurant Review:
Anglo-French relations have never been better than at this suburban restaurant. Chefs Matthew Kemp and Wade Brown have nurtured the menu of modern French and British comfort food over several years, even though they seemed to hit the spot with the locals right from the outset. Whatever their formula, it draws diners who return often for dishes such as a happy inter-cuisine marriage of stuffed confit pork belly with black pudding, or barramundi with duck confit. Two things alone worth coming for are Balzac’s cellar packed with French and Australian wines and the seasonal nine-course dégustation menu served with matching wines on the last Sunday evening of each month. The unpretentious dining here allows the food and wine to star against a rustic backdrop of rough-hewn sandstone walls and huge heavy tables ideal for robust groups given to convivial sharing.
