Restaurant Marché Restaurant Review:
Tucked away in a shopping center is Restaurant Marché, a venture from Greg Atkinson, whose seasoned résumé includes the titles cookbook author, Seattle Culinary Academy instructor and former chef of Canlis. Choose from an array of seating options, including the outdoor patio, small bar area and dining room with banquettes and a metal counter overlooking the open kitchen. There is also a display of for-sale items, such as Atkinson's cookbooks and house-made products like spice blends and ginger lime syrup. It all adds up to a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The food draws inspiration from the nearby Bainbridge Island Farmers' Market --- hence the name Marché. The market vegetable plate features five vegetables each prepared in a unique way, perhaps a green pea flan in the spring or parsnip flan in the winter. Classic French dishes such as onion soup, well-executed chicken liver pâté and salade Lyonnaise (frisée, bacon and farm egg) share space on the menu alongside more Pacific Northwestern reflections like grilled wild salmon with rhubarb and ginger compote. Desserts might include a salted caramel nut tart paired with refreshing mint ice cream. Everything is very tasty and flavorful. The short wine list is tailored to the menu, and there are also microbrews and classic cocktails available.
