This festive and unpretentious eatery serves South American, Latin and Mexican dishes to Highland neighborhood crowds. It's where the locals come when they want shrimp Veracruz, ceviche, empanadas---addictive turnovers packed with a spicy meat and onion mixture---or pudgy chile rellenos stuffed with cheese and smothered with green chile. Tamales are steamed in banana leaves and served with a piquant, chunky salsa. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the chef makes South American paella; the seafood, chicken and Spanish sausage paella dinner for two, priced at $49.95, includes a bottle of house wine. The wine list is modest, but there's a good selection of tequilas. Dense, creamy flan is our favorite dessert.
