Sarma
Oleana’s Ana Sortun and chef de cuisine Cassie Piuma offer Mediterranean tapas in the Winter Hill neighborhood of Somerville.
Sarma Restaurant Review:
Chef-owner Ana Sortun of Oleana and chef de cuisine Cassie Piuma are behind Sarma in the Winter Hill neighborhood of Somerville. The Turkish-inspired restaurant serves small plates like Tunisian steak tartare, blue fish falafel, Moroccan fried shrimp and fava bean pâté. We like sharing the hearty Moorish pork ribs, feta cheese gnocchi, and sweet beef jerky with date molasses. If you aren't familiar with Mediterranean cuisine, there is a glossary on the menu that describes the likes of harissa (chili paste), kofte (meatball) and haloumi (brined sheep-milk cheese). Not in the mood for sharing? Order a heartier dish: harissa barbecue duck or venison mujadra. There is also a full liquor license (the first for Sortun), and a late-night bar menu is available.
