THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Silk Rd. Restaurant Review:
Owner Bassir Bayat is serving his mothers family recipes at this mid-town Afghani restaurant. That, and the homey décor of colorful Afghan rugs and rustic copper cooking pots hung on the walls, contribute to the comforting quality of a meal here. Its hard to go wrong ordering. The pureed pumpkin soup has terrific homespun appeal, and crisp bulanee variously stuffed with peppery potatoes, herbed scallions and spiced beef with chickpeas bring crunch and flavor to pique an appetite. The kebab plate arrives with marinated and grilled chicken, a succulent lamb chop, and a beef sausage sparked with dried lemon, while the aush-e-keshita soothes with soft noodles layered with meat, tomato sauce and yogurt. Do not miss the rosewater ice cream studded with crushed pistachios for dessert.
